Note: Do not proceed if you haven't watched it and don't want me to spoil it for you.

i haven't cried so hard since... i can't remember. the performance of the cast was...stellar, to say the least. and i am once again reminded not to watch war movies otherwise i may need counselling the next time round. sometimes i can't stand that my heart is made of tissue (as in tissue paper... and it's the one-ply kind). anyhow, the movie inspired me to write this.

Too young

He was much too young to know

Too young to understand

Danger was a concept yet unborn

Far, far away in a distant land

He was a curious explorer of eight

He just wished to make a new friend

Delighted to have finally found one

They remained friends till the very end

The boy in the striped pyjamas

He had a peculiar name

There was a number tagged onto him

As if he were part of a game

Though from vastly different worlds

They were really just the same

Each with his heartbreaking innocence

Watched by us with sadness and pain

How were they to know

The horrors that had lain ahead

Terrors that shrouded reality

With the end already in wait

His mother cried as she buried her face

In his small clothes slathered with mud

He was German but he left like a Jew

The richest of ironies bathed in blood

It’s just a movie, I know, I know

But sometimes, life imitates art

The pain seeps through with fluid ease

And penetrates my weak aching heart

ps: Thank God Hitler is DEAD.

home improvement - doggie version

ah... the bliss of letting one's legs rest after a tiring day is the best free-of-charge luxury ever. terri, yifan, helen and i went to ASD today to do volunteer work- we re-painted the walls of their individual "rooms" ( i dont know the correct term... maybe "living quarters"?) my fingers and arms are protesting but the hard work was well worth it. the lucky dogs who got terri and i as their painters are really...well, lucky. too bad we weren't allowed to take any pictures of the compound's interior. but we took some outside haha. and the adorable puppy is Gabby!
